In the age of tablets and smartwatches, it can sometimes be difficult to get your little ones to “unplug” and put the screens away.  Remind your children that it is important for them to explore the world around them and spend quality time with the ones they love.  Encourage them to take a break from technology by using some of these activities to do without technology.

Family Activities To Do Without Technology

it's important that children learn they can have fun away from the computer screen! Here are some activities to do without technology for the whole family.

Board games

There’s nothing better than digging out your favorites and staying in for a Family Game Night!  Purchase board games like Monopoly, Scrabble, or Taboo or come up with your own ideas for a game of Charades or Pictionary!  Sometimes all you need to be going for hours is a deck of playing cards.

Backyard games

Take advantage of sunny summer days and head outside!  Throw around a football, play some catch, or even take it back in time for a simple game of hide and seek or tag.  If you feel like making a splash, get a hose and play water limbo or jump around in a sprinkler!

Explore the great outdoors

A little fresh air is a probably the best way to take a break from technology!  If you live near a forest, go for a hike or nature walk.  Find out where the nearest lake is to swim or rent kayaks.  It is important to educate your children about the world around them and all that Mother Nature has to offer!

If you’re thinking about taking a family trip, here are the best family tents to keep everyone comfortable.

Snuggle up

Perfect for rainy days!  One of the most important things you can do for your children is read to them, so cozy up with some blankets and find a good book!  Some other fun indoor activities to partner with reading might be doing a puzzle or finally constructing that pillow fort your children always beg you to make.

Family food time

Something you can never go wrong with is food!  Find a new recipe and try cooking a meal as a family.  There is nothing more rewarding than eating a meal you worked to make together. Alternatively, find a fun, new restaurant to try out!

Learn a new skill

Ever wanted to learn how to knit?  How about trying your hand at origami?  Crafting or learning a new skill can be a really fun bonding experience, and it just might become a hobby you and your children like to do together from then on!  Make it a DIY day and come up with other arts and crafts to decorate your home with!

Get to know your neighborhood

Hop on your bikes and give yourself a tour of your own town!  Try riding down streets you might not usually take – you may discover hidden treasures you never even knew were there!  Read up on your town’s history and take this opportunity to educate your children about the community around them.

Other outlets

If you can’t think of something fun to do around the house, try finding some other fun things to do in the area!  Bowling or roller skating are fun indoor activities to try, or take it outside with some mini golf or go-karting!  Your kids will never want to pick up their iPads again!

Whether it be going for a bike ride or simply reading a book, it is important that children (especially those from “Generation Z”) learn that they can have fun away from the computer screen!  What are some other family activities to do without technology? Share in the comment section!
