Pack Your Suitcase More Efficiently

If you're trying to fit all you need for your upcoming trip in your carry on, here are a few tricks to help you pack your suitcase like a pro.

Cut it in Half

Before you pack for a trip take out everything you think you need and lay them out on your bed. Then, try and put 50% of it back. Use this infographic to help you figure out what you really need to bring along.

Fold Smart

Instead of folding your clothes like you would before putting them in your dresser, try rolling up your pants and shirts. You could even roll outfits together to keep them from getting wrinkles. As you pack consider choosing wrinkle free/ lightweight clothing to reduce wrinkles and space.

All the Bags

Over the years (and especially now with kids) I have learned that packing a variety of bags can come in handy! Pack a soft sided bag inside your suitcase in case you end up traveling home with more goodies than when you left. Throw a couple trash bags in your suitcase for easy transfer to the washer when you get home. Add a small handful of quart size zip lock bags for snacks or other unexpected storage needs.

Hacks

One tried and true hack that we use frequently is putting press and seal over toiletry bottles to keep them from leaking during travel. Simply remove the lid and cover the opening with press and seal and then screw the lid back on. This will give you double assurance that your clothes won’t arrive drenched in your specialty shampoo.

Stuff your socks and underwear into your boots or sneakers to maximize your space. You can also purchase some shower caps at your nearest dollar store and use them to cover the bottoms of your shoes. This will help keep your shoes from dirtying your clothing.

Try using a pill case for a variety of traveling needs. These handy containers can be used to organize small jewelry, any over the counter medications (like Tylenol, Advil or Vitamins), small amounts of facial creams or grab a larger pull case to stow away some of your favorite candies or snacks.

You’ll find traveling to be even more pleasant when you’re organized, prepared and confident that you have all the essentials. Whether you need to pack a purse or diaper bag for everyday use or pack your suitcase to travel internationally, these tips and tricks will help you travel light and travel smart.
